Chkhaveri is unusual, reddish at harvest it gives a fragrant, barely red wine of strange depth. There is no precedent for this variety in Beka's region of Kvemo Kartli. Beka decided to plant it because he likes the versions from Guria, where Chkhaveri comes from. The conditions of his vineyard are much drier and hotter, but in the end he was wise to plant it. While his version is richer than the traditional Gurian examples it tastes exactly as the variety should. Woodsy, red fruited but with a body like a white wine. We find ourselves wanting to open it all the time. Delightful thought provoking and really easy to drink it complements the day as well as the night. It is a special grape that makes wine unlike any other. Fetishistic.
